Dr. Bhalchandra Smriti Drishti Deen Week 10th June to 16th June

On the occasion of this week, today we are going to briefly look at the information about different eye diseases and what are the remedies for them and what measures should be taken, what should be prevented to prevent the disease, and what should be taken care of if there is a disease.

1. Cataracts :

• Cataract is a very common disease that usually affects people above the age of fifty.

• Cataract is when the lens of the eye becomes opaque with age and the patient has blurred vision.

• Sometimes due to hitting the eye, seeing solar eclipse, taking Steroid medicine for a long time can cause this cataract.

• In some young children, it is possible to have cataracts at birth, if treated early it can help save their vision, but if it is neglected, the eye disease amblyopia develops. In this disease, it is not possible to get back the lost sight of the patient, so timely treatment is the best solution.

• Causes of cataracts in babies include steroid medication by the mother during pregnancy, sun exposure or exposure to harmful rays, trauma to the baby during delivery, cataracts also occur in babies.

• Cataract affects a large number of people worldwide but cataract can be successfully treated with surgery. Cataract surgery allows patients to regain full vision.

2. Glaucoma :

• Glaucoma occurs when the pressure in the eye increases and the optic nerve starts to deteriorate and the patient's periphery vision decreases.

• Glaucoma patient has eye pain, watering, poor peripheral vision.

• One of the important causes of glaucoma in the eye is excess production of aqueous humor in the eye.

• Glaucoma is a serious eye disease which is also called vision stealer because in these diseases the patient does not know that he has the disease until the complete loss of vision.

• This disease can be treated with medication and some types of surgery.

• Patients benefit more from treatment if the disease is diagnosed early and vision can be saved.

3. Squint

• When one eye looks straight ahead, the other eye turns in or out is called strabismus.

• Squnit is mainly seen in children.

• Low vision, low vision in one eye, low eye muscle strength can lead to strabismus.

• Children with strabismus can be screened and corrected for strabismus by using glasses. Sometimes glasses use a lens called a prism.

• If the squint is excessive then squint surgery is done.

4. Corneal Opacity

• The frontmost part of the eye is the Cornea.

• An injury to the cornea, Foreign body in the eye, or a bacterial infection causes the transparent cornea to become opaque (white) and this is what we call a Corneal Opacity.

• If there is a opacity in the eye, the solution is to remove it surgically, in which the cornea of the eye donor is implanted.

• Goggles should always be worn while driving to prevent dust from getting into the eyes or causing eye damage.

• Consult an ophthalmologist as soon as possible if foreign body gets into the eye.

5. Amblyopia - lazy eye

• Lazy eye is the lack of eye sight even when the entire eye is normal we call it lazy eye.

• Lazy eye in infants due to congenital cataracts or use of one eye.

• If lazy eye is treated early, vision can be recovered, but if the eye is diagnosed late, treatment is of little use.

• Sometimes there is vision in one eye but poor vision in the other eye so the patient doesn't seem to have vision loss and this leads to late diagnosis of diseases like laziness.

• Patients with lazy eye are more likely to have strabismus.

• The treatment for lazy eye is patching the normal eye and trying to see with the eye that has less vision, so there is a possibility of increasing the vision.

• So an important treatment for lazy eye is eye patching.
