Ophthalmic officer qualification

The ophthalmic officer is well trained person in eye care or ophthalmology department. The basic qualification of ophthalmic officer is graduation in optometry in any approved optometry collage in maharastra.

Ophthalmic officer is state goverment post in national programme for control of blindness and visual impairment (NPCB & VI). Ophthalmic officer is backbone of national programme for control of blindness and visual impairment.

Ophthalmic officer working at ground level like primary health center and Rural hospital and some trained ophthalmic officer is posting at District hospital or civil hospital.

Job work of ophthalmic officer

Basically all ophthalmic officer working under the District programme manager (DPM) of NPCB. DPM is head of department of ophthalmology in each district. DPM is ophthalmogist.

Basic works of ophthalmic officer is :-

1. Examine and diagnose the disease and find out the cataract patient for cataract surgery.

2. All basic investigation and check up then refer the patient to cataract surgery at district level.

3. Diagnose and treat the common eye disease at primary level like conjunctivitis.
