Astigmatism Fan Test

A clear visual check for refractive error (Astigmatism).

How to Perform the Test

  1. Stand back: Position yourself about 1-2 meters (3-6 feet) from the screen.
  2. Cover one eye: Cover one eye completely with your hand.
  3. Focus: Look directly at the red center point of the fan.
  4. Observe: If you have astigmatism, one or two lines will appear much sharper and darker than the others.
  5. Note the Axis: The sharpest and darkest line indicates the approximate axis (direction) of your astigmatism.
  6. Repeat: Repeat the test with the other eye covered.
