Amsler Grid Eye Test
How to Use the Grid:
- Setup: Ensure you are in a well-lit room. If you normally wear glasses for reading, keep them on.
- Distance: Hold the screen at a comfortable reading distance (about 12-14 inches / 30-35 cm).
- Test One Eye: Cover one eye completely with your hand.
- Fixate: Look directly at the red dot in the center of the grid with the uncovered eye. **Do not let your eye wander.**
-
Observe: While looking only at the center dot, try to see if any of the following occur:
- Any lines appear wavy, bent, or distorted?
- Any area of the grid appears blurry, dark, or missing?
- The grid corners or edges look unusual?
- Repeat: Repeat the process with the other eye covered.
When to Seek Medical Attention:
If you notice any new distortion, blurring, or missing areas in the grid, contact your eye doctor immediately for a full professional examination.
